GENDER AFFIRMATION SURGERY

Vaginal Aesthetics Surgery

The aim of a vaginoplasty is to achieve female genitalia, not only from a functional and anatomical perspective, but also from an aesthetic viewpoint. Sometimes, the aesthetic aspect must be postponed to a second surgical stage. This procedure is what we call vaginal aesthetics.

What is vaginal aesthetics surgery?

During vaginoplasty (either penile inversion or pedicled rectosigmoid flap), the surgeon will perform the so-called “vaginal aesthetic surgery”, which consists of the design and construction of the labia minora, the clitoris and a clitoral hood, provided that the trans woman has sufficient scrotal skin.

There are several reasons why the surgeon may decide to postpone part or all of this surgery and perform it after the vaginoplasty. In such cases, the second operation is usually postponed for about three months, although it normally consists of minor corrections performed under local anaesthesia and does not require hospitalisation.
